
BYD, a multinational high-tech company, officially opened its first showroom in Dhaka on Saturday, making it easier for people to experience electric vehicles while contributing to sustainable living.
CG Runner BD LTD has taken the initiative to introduce BYD in the country.
Addressing the inaugural programme as chief guest, Salman F Rahman, the private industries and investment adviser to prime minister Sheikh Hasina, said that the government wanted to achieve a target of 30 per cent adoption of electric vehicles in the country by 2030 and materialised Smart Bangladesh vision by 2041.
To achieve these, electric vehicles must be made available in the country, he said, adding that he would propose to reduce the duty fee for electric vehicles in the next parliamentary budget.
In the beginning, the brand’s flagship model BYD SEAL, sedan, with its two variants – premium variant with an extended mileage of 570km, rear drive, and performance variant with a mileage of 520km AWD (all-wheel drive) – will be displayed for sale at the showroom.
The 8,400 square feet showroom, located at Tejgaon industrial area, can accommodate five cars at a time.
The BYD SEAL showcases a distinctive ‘Ocean Aesthetics’ design and seamlessly integrates a suite of state-of-the-art technologies developed by BYD, including their e-platform 3.0, innovative CTB (cell-to-body) technology, Blade Battery and iTAC (intelligent Torture Adaptation Control), which comes with a slanted roofline, panoramic glass roof, short rear deck, water drop mirrors, wave waistline, and LED lights.
CG Runner BD LTD has a plan to open more showrooms and service centres in the future so that the adoption of EVs can be expedited.
Founded in 1995 as a rechargeable battery maker, BYD now boasts a diverse business scope covering automobiles, rail transit, new energy, and electronics, with over 30 industrial parks in China, the United States, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Hungary, and India.
