One of his associates, Mahatab Uddin Ahmed, was accompanying the economist on his way to Dhaka from Dinajpur.

‘The train stopped after crossing Malibagh Level Crossing. Many people were disembarking as their houses were adjacent to the place. We also decided to disembark, and I came out first. Then Professor Anu Muhammad tried to come down from the train,’ Mahatab said.

‘When Anu Muhammad was stepping down, the train started moving, and he slipped from the train,’ Mahatab explained how the accident occurred.
