Forty more members of the Myanmar Border Guard Police entered Bangladesh Friday night and Saturday morning seeking shelter amid fighting in the Rakhine state between armed ethnic group Arakan Army and Myanmar military, Bangladesh officials said.

They entered Bangladesh from Sabrang-Acharbuniya and Nayapara of Teknaf in Cox鈥檚 Bazar and they were kept at Hnila High School initially.


Officials at foreign and home ministries confirmed the new arrival and said they were disarmed and taken into safe custody.

Sabrang pion parishad chairman Noor Hossain said that he found 40 Myanmar BGP membered to enter with weapons.

The Border Guard Bangladesh was looking into the matter.

This is the first arrival in May after 288 Myanmar army and border force members who had entered Bangladesh seeking shelter were repatriated on April 25.

The 288 had entered Bangladesh separately and on different occasions since March 11, crossing River Naf and land border.聽

In February, 330 members of Myanmar security forces, including BGP officers, army personnel and immigration officials, took shelter in Bangladesh as violent conflicts with the Arakan Army in the Rakhine state.聽 All the 330 personnel were repatriated on February 15.
