
A member and a supporter of the United People’s Democratic Front were shot to death by unidentified attackers in Rangamati’s Langadu upazila on Saturday morning.
The deceased were Bidyadhan Chakma Tilok, 50, a member of the Chattogram Hill Tracts-based political organisation, and one of its supporters, Dhonyomoni Chakma, 40.
UPDF spokesperson Aongay Marma alleged that a group of seven members of Parbatya Chattogram Jana Samhati Samiti, the CHT based political party led by Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma known as Santu Larma, killed them.
PCJSS Langadu upazila committee general secretary Manishankar Chakma denied the allegation and said that they have no involvement in the incident.
‘PCJSS members are not associated with any militant activities,’ he said.
He also alleged that UPDF members were purposefully spreading lies against PCJSS.
The incident took place at about 8:30am in the remote Manpati area in Langadu, Rangamati police superintendent Mir Abu Touhid told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Saturday.
Some attackers opened fire at the duo and left them dead on the spot, said the police official.
‘The place of the incident is very remote. It will take time for the police to reach the spot. More details will be revealed later,’ he said.
UPDF in a statement demanded trial and punishment for those behind the incident.
