The Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday filed a case against a police constable on charge of accumulating illegal wealth worth Tk 62 lakh.

Amir Hossain, assistant director of ACC Rajshahi district integrated office, filed the case against Md Mehedi Hasan, a constable attached to the office of the superintendent of Natore police, under the Sections 26 (2) and 27 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Act, 2004.

According to the case statement, the commission has found the police constable鈥檚 total assets worth Tk 96,84,094 against his acceptable legal income of Tk 34,75,064, meaning that the latter has accumulated assets worth Tk 62,09,030 illegally.

Amir Hossain said that constable Mehedi Hasan submitted a total of forty eight judicial stamps to the commission and said that he had taken loans of Tk 18,00,000 and Tk 33,00,000 in respect of land mortgages from different people.

The commission, however, found all the stamps fake and the information regarding loan and mortgage stated on the stamps false and baseless, and they were submitted knowingly for the purpose of legitimizing illegal assets, he added.

The ACC official said that the case statement was forwarded to the Rajshahi Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court for further legal proceedings.

Constable Mehedi Hasan could not be reached for comments even after several attempts on Monday afternoon.
