The Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday filed a case against Kamrun Nahar, a former principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in Dhaka, on charges of illegally recruiting 72 teachers and staff.
The commission’s assistant director, Md Ruhul Haque, filed the case with its integrated district office in Dhaka-1 against Kamrun Nahar.
ACC deputy director Aktarul Islam said that the commission earlier on Wednesday approved the case against her for the graft charges.
According to the case statement, Kamrun Nahar, during her tenure as principal, appointed 72 teachers and staff members to work at the institution illegally, violating the order of the education ministry in this regard.
According to an education ministry circular issued on April 20, 2016, private educational institutions cannot appoint teachers and employees without a regular committee of the governing body.
But on January 11, 2022, Kamrun Nahar issued a recruitment notice and put it up on their internal notice board and later appointed the 72 teachers and staff violating the ministry order.
In July 2021, Kamrun Nahar also faced criticism after an audio clip, purported to have recorded her voice, went viral on social media.
The alleged leaked conversation was between the principal, Kamrun Nahar, and Mir Sahabuddin Tipu, the leader of the guardian forum of the school.
In the conversation, Kamrun Nahar was seen threatening Mir Sahabuddin by saying, ‘I used to walk around with a revolver in my bag. I used to tuck a pistol under my pillow.’
She also said, ‘I have the Chhatra League, Jubo League, and Mohila League with me.’
Later, Mir Sahabuddin Tipu claimed he was the person on the receiving end of the audio clip.
Kamrun Nahar, however, in a Facebook post, claimed that the audio clip was ‘edited’.
