Independent lawmaker for Habiganj-4 Syed Sayedul Haque Suman filed a general diary on Saturday with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station in Dhaka over receiving death threat.
He also alleged police inaction over his death threat on Sunday.Â
In the general dairy, Sumon, also a Supreme Court lawyer, claimed that Chunarughat police station officer-in-charge made a phone call to him through WhatsApp from the OC’s official number at about 8:00pm on Thursday.
Sumon said that the Chunarughat OC told him that a powerful quarter employed four to five people for killing him three days ago.
Talking to reporters on the Supreme Court premises on Sunday, Suman alleged that the police were waiting for filing an unnatural death case instead of taking necessary action.
‘Although the threat came via Chunarughat OC, the police had not initiated any investigation into the matter immediately. The issue must have been investigated before coming to me,’ he said, raising a question whether the state-machinery is trying to save him.
Coming down heavily on the police, Suman said that the police were yet to trace any people.
‘The police informed me that they found several locations through mobile tracking,’ he added.
In the GD Sumon said that when he wanted to know about their identities, the Chunarughat OC declined to reveal it but advised him to remain alert.
‘I am suffering from insecurity,’ Suman said.
‘You should not go out of your home at night and stay cautious,’ Sumon said quoting Chunarughat OC as saying.
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station officer-in-charge Md Ahad Ali told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Sunday afternoon over the phone that they had handed over the issue to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch’s Tejgaon Division for investigation.
‘We have taken the GD seriously,’ the OC added.
Asked about the Suman’s claim over police inaction, DMP DB Tejgaon Division additional deputy commissioner Mohammad Shafiqul Islam said that they heard about the allegations of lawyer Suman.
‘As the news of threats came from the Chunarughat area by the OC and the GD was filed with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station, we are investigating the matter in Dhaka areas. We are investigating the matter and can’t talk more right now,’ Shafiqul told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
Chunarughat OC or duty officer could not be reached for their comments despite repeated attempts over the phone.
