Students of Barishal University blocked the Dhaka-Barishal Highway for an hour on Tuesday protesting High Court鈥檚 decision to reinstate the quota system in government jobs.
Speakers said that some people benefited from the quota system while general students were deprived of jobs based on merit, and, therefore, all quotas except those for people with disability and national minority communities.
Hundreds of vehicles were stuck on both sides of the highway as the students put up a blockade from 11:30am to 12:30pm.
Earlier, the students held a protest rally and procession for the second day at the university gate in the morning.
Abdur Rahman Mukul, officer-in-charge of Bandar police station of metropolitan police, said students blocked the highway but things went back to normal later.
