The Anti-Corruption Commission on Wednesday filed two cases against Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha director Md Mobarok Hossain and his wife Shahana Parveen on charge of amassing illegal wealth.

The commission’s assistant director Asif Al Mahmud filed the cases with its integrated district office in Dhaka-1, said ACC deputy director for public relations Aktarul Islam.

The commission filed a case accusing Mobarok of acquiring assets worth Tk 41.46 lakh disproportionate to his legal sources of income.

According to case document, Mobarok showed his movable and immovable wealth worth Tk 1.10 crore in his wealth statement submitted to the commission.

After scrutinising the wealth report, the commission found legal sources of income for his wealth worth Tk 69.39 lakh and the rest of the wealth of Tk 41.46 was illegal, said the complaint.

In another case, the commission stated that Shahana Parveen amassed assets worth Tk 1.58 crore beyond her known sources of income with the help of her husband Mobarok.

According to the case, Shahana Parveen, a housewife, showed her movable and immovable wealth worth Tk 1.99 crore in her wealth statement submitted to the commission.

The commission, however, during the inquiry found legal sources of income for Tk 41.02 lakh, and she amassed the rest of Tk 1.58 crore beyond known sources of income.

The wealth was acquired by Shahana with her husband’s ill-gotten gains, said the complaint that named Shahana as the main accused and her husband as the co-accused.
