The Indian Border Security Force shot dead a 20-year-old Bangladeshi national early Friday along the Nagarbhita border at Baliadangi upazila in Thakurgaon.
The deceased was identified as Raju Mia, a resident of Goriali village under Palashbari union of the upazila.
He died as the BSF opened fire on him at Tingaon inside India at about 1:30am.Â
Thakurgaon superintendent of police Uttam Pathak told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that Raju crossed the Nagarbhita border and went into India to smuggle cattle in the early hours of the day.
Lieutenant Colonel Md Tanjir Ahmed, commanding officer of the Border Guard Bangladesh 50 Battalion in Thakurgaon, said, ‘We have heard about the incident and asked for a flag meeting with the BSF.’
Earlier on June 26, another 65-year-old Bangladeshi national named Nur Islam, a cattle trader, was killed by the BSF along Lohakuchi border in Lalmonirhat.
He died on the spot as the patrol team of West Chamta camp of 78 BSF shot at him.
The quarterly report released by the human rights group Ain O Salish Kendra on Thursday revealed that 13 Bangladeshis were killed between January and June this year, while 10 were killed over the same period last year.
According to the ASK, in 2023, a total of 28 Bangladeshis were shot dead and 31 were injured in border violence by the BSF.
In 2022, the BSF members tortured 23 Bangladeshis to death, injured 15 and abducted 11.
