Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday felt embarrassed at a programme at party’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office as former leaders of the ruling Awami League-backed Chhatra League made a commotion while he was speaking to the media instead of exchanging views with the leaders.
The programme was called amid the ongoing student protest.
The former central leaders of the Chhatra League of 90s and other times were invited to the programme for exchanging views with them.
At the programme, Obaidul Quader started briefing the media persons without holding views with the former student leaders.
Some of former student leaders demanded time from Obaidul Quader saying that he (Obaidul Quader) invited them for exchanging views on the issue of crisis of the student movement.
Then Quader replied that he had no time to talk with them and he hurriedly left the programme place.
Some of the former student leaders told Quader that he never talked with them on any issue of the party earlier.
And some leaders shouted, ‘bhua’, ‘bhua’.
More than one hundred former presidents, general secretaries and central leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League attended the programme, the meeting sources said.
Among the central leaders of Awami League presidium members Abdur Razzaque, Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, organising secretary BM Mozammel Hossain, central leaders Sujit Roy Nandi, Delwar Hossain and others attended the programme.
During the quota reform student movement some comments of Obaidul Quader had created controversy.
Quader said that to control quota movements the Bangladesh Chhatra League would be enough.
As the quota reform movement of the students intensified, Quader did not give any political statement up to July 22.
