A Rohingya youth was allegedly shot dead by unidentified people in a Rohingya camp at Ukhia in Cox鈥檚 Bazar early Wednesday.
The deceased is Syed Karim, 37, a resident of Kutupalang-4 Rohingya camp.
Wishing anonymity, a Rohingya leader said that a gunfight started between two armed groups early Wednesday.
During the fight, about 20 rounds of bullets were fired.
Later, the Rohingya youth was found dead in the area.
Ukhia police station officer-in-charge Shamim Hossain said that the body was sent to Cox鈥檚 Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
The officer also said that it was initially believed that the youth died in a shootout between two groups over establishing supremacy in the Rohingya camp.
The police are working to identify and arrest the miscreants, he added.
At least 67 Rohingyas were killed in camps in 2023, while 31 were killed until July 31, 2024, according to the Rapid Action Battalion.
