Bangladesh Health Watch, a non-governmental organisation, urged the authorities concerned to immediately issue directives and provide resources to all healthcare institutions for treating people injured amid the unprecedented situation that has been created in the country in the past few weeks.

‘Brutal attacks have been carried out on students participating in the peaceful quota reform movement, leading to numerous injuries and deaths. As a citizens’ platform, the Bangladesh Health Watch strongly condemns such barbarous attacks on unarmed citizens. We pray for the salvation of the departed souls and quick recovery of the injured and demand for the immediate release of those arrested unlawfully,’ reads a press release issued by Bangladesh Health Watch.

‘We have noted with deep appreciation the sincerity with which certain hospitals and clinics have gone out of their way to help the injured. But, at the same time, we are concerned about the reported refusal of a few healthcare providers to provide medical services to the injured. We believe that healthcare is a basic human right, guaranteed by our constitution. As such no healthcare facility, public or private, should ever refuse providing care on any ground whatsoever,’ it adds.

‘The Bangladesh Health Watch seeks the whole society to join in efforts to ensure that no life is lost due to lack of timely medical attention for every life is precious,’ the press release adds.
