Former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud, former state minister for posts, telecommunications and information technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak and two leaders of Awami League-backed student body the Bangladesh Chhatra League were detained at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Tuesday.

They were detained while trying to leave the country, said officials concerned.

The detained BCL leaders are Dhaka University unit general secretary Tanveer Hasan Saikat and Dhaka North City unit president Riyaz Mahmud.

National Press Club general secretary Shyamal Dutta was denied going to Indian state Tripura at Akhaura Land Port.

Palak was trying to go to New Delhi in India, but immigration officials did not allow him to go, a deputy inspector general of Special Branch of Police told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.

‘We are not allowing any high profile persons to go aboard without having the clearance of intelligence agencies, including the Awami League and its associate bodies leaders along with some journalists,’ the DIG added.
