
At least six inmates were killed as they attempted to flee the Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur, while 209 of them managed to escape in the early hours of Wednesday.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Gazipur reported that prison guards shot them dead while they were escaping.
In another incident, at least 50 inmates managed to break free the Kushtia district jail on Wednesday.
Kashimpur senior jail super Subrata Kumar Bala said that inmates suddenly brought out a procession demanding their release and attempted to break the gate.
‘The inmates became aggressive as prison guards tried to prevent them. Later, army was deployed at the jail to bring the situation under control,’ he said.
The six bodies were sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital at about 3:30am on the day.
In Sirajganj, meanwhile, prison guards, aided by the army, foiled an attempt to break the district jail on Wednesday.
Sirajganj jail superintendent SM Kamrul Huda also said that in executive orders through the court 151 inmates of the jail were released on Tuesday, and 23 others were released on Wednesday morning.
Earlier on Monday, 596 inmates escaped from Satkhira district jail following an attack on the facility.
Same day, 500 inmates escaped as miscreants stormed into the Sherpur district jail.
On July 19, 826 inmates broke free the Narshingdi district jail as complete anarchy descended on the district as angry protesters set government offices on fire, blocked the Dhaka-Sylhet highway and confined local ruling Awami League leaders to their residences.
