Deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s private industry and investment adviser Salman F Rahman and former law minister Anisul Huq were arrested at Dhaka River Port at Sadarghat on Tuesday evening.

Confirming the matter to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner M Mainul Hasan said that they were arrested in a case lodged with New Market police station in the capital.

Later, DMP in a press release said that they arrested them at Sadarghat on secret information when they were trying to flee on river route.

On July 17, two cases were filed over the clashes at the Science Laboratory crossing on July 16 which killed two people — Sabuj Ali, a Dhaka College student and reportedly an activist of Awami League’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League, and Shahjahan, a hawker.

According to New Market Police Station officer-in-charge Aminul Islam, unnamed individuals were accused in the cases filed by Sabuj’s brother Nur Nabi and Shahjahan’s mother Ayesha Begum.

The cases were filed against an unspecific number of people.

New Market OC Aminul said that they both were arrested in the same case without specifying the particular case.

On January 15 in 2019, Beximco Group vice-chairman Salman F Rahman was  appointed as the prime minister’s private industry and investment adviser.

Anisul Huq was law minister of the government of Sheikh Hasina for three terms — 2014, 2018 and 2024 — after he was appointed as law minister first time on January 9, 2014.

Awami League people are now on the run to avoid arrests and mob beating after the fall of the government of  Sheikh Hasina on August 5 amid a mass uprising led by student protest.

Both Anisul and Salman, close aides to Sheikh Hasina, who has fled to India, went into hiding like many others after the forced resignation of the prime minister.

At least 376 people were killed and several thousand were injured in violent protest between July 16 and August 5 while most of the bodies were found hit by bullet fired by members of law enforcement agencies.
