The Dhaka Metropolitan Police have suspended Shahbagh police station inspector (operations) Arshad Hossain, who was photographed gagging a student protester during a demonstration on July 31.
The DMP commissioner Md Mainul Hasan ordered the suspension on Sunday, stating Arshad鈥檚 unprofessional conduct as the reason.
The order stated that despite being a member of a well-disciplined police force, Arshad鈥檚 unprofessional actions had tarnished the image of the police.
His action created a negative perception about the police activities among the people of the country, the order said.
The incident occurred during the Student Movement Against Discrimination鈥檚 鈥楳arch for Justice鈥� programme, where Arshad was pictured gagging Nahidul Islam, a political science student of the New Model Degree College in Dhaka.
