The government has dissolved the governing bodies of all government primary schools under the primary and mass education ministry across the country.
An office order, issued by the ministry on Wednesday, also gave an order to form ad hoc committees in these schools.
The decision came one day after the education ministry gave the divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers the responsibility for the chairman post of governing bodies in all non-government educational institutions under the ministry on Tuesday.
After Sheikh Hasina resigned as the prime minister and fled to India on August 5 following a mass uprising led by students, many people holding chairman posts in different educational institutions went into hiding.
It was alleged that these people were followers of the Bangladesh Awami League.
The primary and mass education ministry’s Thursday office order read that under the present circumstances the governing bodies in all government primary schools in the country were cancelled following the sub-section 5.1 of the guidelines issued following a ministry circular of November 6, 2019.
As per the sub-section, the authorities could cancel the governing bodies in the schools if the committees disobey government’s orders, show negligence in carrying out their duties and breach any discipline.   Â
The Thursday order also said that following the same guidelines’ sub-section 2.10 necessary steps were requested to take for forming ad hoc committees.
The order would be in effect immediately, it concluded.
The order was signed by primary and mass education ministry deputy secretary Akhtarunnahar.
