At least four people were killed and 10 others injured in separate road accidents in Chapainawabganj, Sylhet and Gopalganj on Friday.

Two labourers were killed as a cement-laden truck overturned at Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.


The deceased are Md Fanu Ali, 50, son of late Idris Ali and Abdur Razzaq Khudu, 45, son of late Heras Uddin, both of Pirojpur village under the upazila.

Officer-in-charge of Shibganj Thana Md Sajjad Hossain said that a Barik Bazar-bound cement-laden truck from Pirojpur village overturned and fell into a roadside pond as its driver lost control over the steering at about 10.10am, leaving both the labourers dead on the spot.

Four other labourers received minor injuries in the accident, he added.

Being informed, police from Shibganj thana rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies. Later, the bodies were handed over to families.

None was arrested as the driver and helper of the truck fled away from the scene, the OC added.

Sylhet bureau chief of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Maksud Ahmad Maksud was killed in a motorcycle accident early Friday, said a BSS report.

Younger brother of the deceased Muajjin Ahmad said that Maksud and his banker friend Galib were returning home by the motorbike at about 2.30am.

When the motorcycle reached at Madina Market point of Sylhet-Sunamganj Highway, it overturned following a hit with an electricity pillar as its driver lost control, he said.

Maksud and Galib were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared Maksud dead.

Galib is now undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Son of late Jamshed Ali of Maiyarchar area of Sylhet city, Maksud, 50, was the eldest among his six siblings, including five brothers and one sister.

Maksud was serving Sylhet Online Press Club as its general secretary.

According to another BSS report, the driver of a microbus was killed and five others were injured in a collision between the microbus and a bus in Gopalganj Sadar upazila.

Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

OC of Gopalganj Sadar Thana Md Anisur Rahman said that the accident occurred at about 12:30pm at Pathalia on Dhaka-Khulna Highway, leaving the driver dead on the spot. The microbus was heading towards Khulna.

Injured people were admitted to Gopalganj general hospital, he added.
