Leaders of Bangladesh Garment Sramik Samhati at a rally on Friday placed three demands, including trial into the murder of garment workers in the police firing during the recent student movement, to the interim government.

The rally was organised in front of the National Press Club in the capital.


The Garment Sramik Samhati also demanded the withdrawal of the cases filed against garment workers’ during their movement for increasing wage in 2023.

Chairing the rally, president of the organisation, Taslima Akhter, said that they were getting news that nearly 20 garment workers were killed during the movement against discriminations, which brought down the autocratic Sheikh Hasina government.

Among them, we have received identities of Mohamad Zaman Mia, Subha Shil, Zakir Hossain, Shah Alam and Sohag Mia, mentioned Taslima. 

Urging the interim government to withdraw the cases field against the garment workers during their movement of increasing wages in 2023, Taslima also called on the government to prepare a complete list of the garment workers killed in the student movement.

Mother of Shuva Shil, who was killed in police firing, Sadhana Shil, demanded trials of the killers of her son during the movement.

Vice-president of the organisation, Anjan Das, also demanded trials of killers of the workers in Rana Plaza and Tazreen Fashion.

Assistant general secretary FM Nurul Islam, organising secretary Prabir Saha, central leaders Jiadul Hasan, among others, spoke at the rally.

The rally was followed by a protest procession that paraded different city roads.
