The authorities of National University have dissolved governing bodies or ad hoc committees of all non-government colleges and other educational institutions under it across the country.
The university also asked the authorities of the colleges and other educational institutions to propose names of three education enthusiasts with a minimum honours degree for being appointed as the chairmen and members of the ad hoc committees.
All teachers, officers and employees were also asked by the university authorities to join their own workplaces on time by September 1.
The university authorities published two separate circulars in this regard on August 29 on its website.
Earlier, the education ministry in a press release gave the divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers the responsibility for the chairman post of governing bodies in all non-government educational institutions under it across the country on August 20 against the backdrop of the current situation.
Next day, on August 21, the government also dissolved the governing bodies of all government primary schools under the primary and mass education ministry across the country and also gave an order to form ad hoc committees in these schools.
After Sheikh Hasina resigned as the prime minister and fled to India on August 5 following a mass uprising led by students, many people holding chairman posts in different educational institutions went into hiding.
It was alleged that these people were followers of the Bangladesh Awami League without eligibility.
The National University circular of cancelling the governing bodies also read that for proper operation of the academic and administrative activities, the authorities of these educational institutions under the university would have to propose names of three education enthusiasts each with a minimum honours degree for being appointed as chairmen and members of the ad hoc committees.
Another circular with the order of joining workplaces by September 1 also read that divisional action would be taken if any teachers, officers and employees of the colleges and other educational institutions under National University failed to join workplaces by the time.Â
The university website shows that under it currently there are a total of 2,257 educational institutions (colleges and institutes) including 555 government, 1,361 non-government and 341 other ones.
A total of 34.25 lakh students are studying in these educational institutions which offer degrees ranging from bachelor’s to PhD.
