Inqilab Mancho, an organisation of students from different universities, on Wednesday announced of organising a long march toward Dumboor Dam in Tripura, India on Friday to protest against India’s water aggression.
The detailed route and schedule were revealed at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon at the Madhu’s Canteen on Dhaka University campus.
The march will start from the capital’s Shahbagh intersection at 9:00am on Friday, with rallies at various locations along the way. In the afternoon, there will be a march towards the dam.
It was announced at the press conference that this long march of students and the public from Dhaka to Tripura’s Dumboor Dam is being organised to protest against India’s water aggression against Bangladesh and demand the removal of all India’s ‘illegal’ and ‘unilateral’ dams on transboundary rivers.
At the press conference, Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, the convener of Inqilab Mancho, spoke and presented five-point demands.
‘We will gather at Shahbagh at 9:00 am on Friday. We have arranged 10 trucks to head towards the Dumboor Dam,’ he said.
However, some of the participants have mentioned that they would use their own transportation, and others may choose to go by bike, he added.
He announced that they would hold a rally at around 10am at Jatrabari Intersection. After Jummah prayers, they will hold another rally in Chandina, Cumilla.
‘Later, at 4:00pm, we will organise a grand assembly at the town hall. After the assembly, we will march from there towards the Bibir Bazar border,’ he added.
The five-point demand of the Inqilab Mancho included an immediate initiative to implement the Teesta Barrage Master Plan, to sign the United Nations Watercourses Convention 1997 as soon as possible, to initiate the preparation of a new list of transboundary rivers, include all stakeholders in the basin-based water sharing of 54 trans-boundary rivers and involve international forums to demand the removal of all illegal dams in India.
