Five more cases were filed against the deposed prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, her cabinet and party colleagues and several members of the police on the charges of killing demonstrators during the student-people mass uprising.

Three of the new cases were filed on the charges of genocide and crimes against humanity, while the rest two were field on murder charges for the killing of protesters at Mohakhali in Dhaka and Putia in Rajshahi.

The new cases took to 100 the number of cases filed against Haisna since August 5, when she resigned and fled to India amid the mass uprising.

One of the cases was filed with the International Crimes Tribunal against Hasina and 22 others, including former ministers Hasanul Haq Inu, Obaidul Quader and Asaduzzaman Khan.

The case was filed over the death of three students, including Mehedi Hasan, who were allegedly killed during a protest on July 20 on Savar Bazar Road, which was part of a broader student movement against discrimination.

The case was filed by Mehedi’s father, M Shahidul Islam, a resident of Savar, alleging that the killings were part of a coordinated attack orchestrated by the government.

In another case, also filed with the International Crimes Tribunal, Hasina and 35 others were accused of crimes against humanity in connection with the death of Ahnab Abir Ashrafullah, a student of Manarat International University.

Ahnab was reportedly killed in police fire during a protest in Ashulia on August 5, after the fall of Hasina’s government.

The case was brought by Ahnab’s sister, Saida Akhter, accusing Hasina, Obaidul Quader, and several high-ranking police officials, including former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and former Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Habibur Rahman, of orchestrating the violent suppression of the protests.

A third case was filed with the International Crimes Tribunal against Hasina and 22 others over the killing of Saiful Islam Sekul, a 32-year-old returnee migrant worker from Malaysia, who was shot dead in front of the Uttara Purbo police station on August 5.

The case, filed by Saiful’s brother, Khairul Islam, alleged that Saiful was killed following direct orders from Hasina and her associates.

Among the accused are top political figures, including Awami League cultural secretary Ashim Kumar Ukil and former Netrakona lawmakers Sazzadul Hassan and Mostaq Ahmed.

In a separate case, Masufa, the wife of Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Majir Uddin, filed charges against Hasina and her associates over the killing of her husband in 2015. Majir Uddin, a local leader of the party, was shot dead during a rally the party was holding in Baneswar Bazar area in Rajshahi, as part of its ‘democracy killing day’ protests.

The case accused 178 named, including former ministers Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan and Abdul Wadud, and 260 unnamed individuals, of orchestrating the attack resulting in Majir Uddin’s death and the injury of dozens of others, including police officers and journalists.

A further case was filed on Thursday in Dhaka against Hasina and 67 others over shooting rickshaw puller Md Sohagh during the anti-quota protests in July.

Sohagh was shot near the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh in Mohakhali, and later succumbed to his wounds.

His father, Md Nurul Islam, filed the case with a Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court with its magistrate Arfatul Rakib ordering the Banani police to register the complaint as a First Information Report.

Among the accused are Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan, former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud, and Sheikh Selim, all of whom allegedly played role in the suppression of the protests.
