Former additional deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Sanjida Afrin has been suspended temporarily allegedly for misconduct.

The suspension was announced in a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday.

Sanjida, who is currently serving in the Armed Police Battalion, has been accused of misconduct. She was suspended under the Government Service Rules Act.

During this period, she will be attached to Barishal Police Ranges and will receive subsistence allowance in accordance with government regulations.

Earlier, Detective Branch inspector Jahangir Arif made a report clearing former law minister Anisul Huq, former Private Sector and Investment Adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Salman F Rahman, and former director general of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre, former major general Ziaul Ahsan, in two murder cases during the July-August student uprising.

The report, however, became public before being submitted to the court.

Inspector Jahangir Arif has since been temporarily suspended. During internal inquiries, Arif reportedly claimed that he acted on the instructions of ADC Sanjida Afrin.

On August 13, police arrested Salman F Rahman and Anisul Huq at Dhaka River Port at Sadarghat while they were trying to flee on river route. Since then, they were behind bars on multiple charges, including murder.
