Nayeemul Islam Khan, journalist and former press secretary to deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, along with his family members, operated 163 bank accounts with deposits totalling Tk 386 crore, according to the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit.

The BFIU recently sent an investigative report on this matter to the Anti-Corruption Commission, officials said


听Of the total amount, Tk 379.52 crore has been withdrawn, leaving Tk 6.27 crore currently in the accounts, according to the report.

Additionally, 46 accounts linked to Nayeemul Islam鈥檚 affiliated institutions held Tk 127.64 crore, of which nearly all but Tk 21 lakh has been withdrawn, the report said.

A BFIU report revealed that Nayeemul Islam Khan personally holds 91 bank accounts with deposits of Tk 249 crore, from which he withdrew Tk 238.34 crore, it said.

Only Tk 64 lakh remains in his accounts.

Nayeemul Islam couldn鈥檛 be reached for comments.

听His wife, Nasima Khan Monty, manages 13 bank accounts with deposits of Tk 16.96 crore, withdrawing Tk 13 crore from them, it said.

His three daughters -Adiba Nayeem Khan鈥檚 account shows Tk 35 lakh, Labiba Nayeem Khan鈥檚 Tk 1.25 crore, and Zulika Nayeem Khan鈥檚 Tk 61 lakh.

Most of these funds have also been withdrawn.

The investigative report indicates that Nayeemul Islam Khan and his family collectively use 12 credit cards with a total limit of Tk 28.35 lakh.

These cards currently have an outstanding balance of Tk 48,408.

Nayeemul Islam himself uses six credit cards with a limit exceeding Tk 15 lakh.

His wife, Nasima Khan Monty, holds four cards with a combined limit of Tk4.19 lakh, while their two daughters use two cards with a total limit of Tk 4.5 lakh.

On August 25, following the fall of Sheikh Hasina鈥檚 government, the central bank鈥檚 financial intelligence division froze the family鈥檚 bank accounts. However, they had already withdrawn most of the funds.

After the end of Sheikh Hasina鈥檚 authoritarian regime on August 5, Nayeemul Islam Khan went into hiding and subsequently shut down the newspapers he operated.
