Veteran labour leader and president of Bangladesh Trade Union Centre Shahidullah Chowdhury died on Friday noon in his residence in Dhaka.

He was 84.


Office secretary to TUC Shahida Parveen Shikha told 抖阴精品 that Shahidullah Chowdhury died in his Demra residence at 2:00pm.

He was suffering from old age complications, Shahida added.

Shahidullah Chowdhury was a prominent labour leader and worked for organising workers of now closed Latif Bawani Jute Mills at Demra in Dhaka. He was also a central leader of Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad. He was involved in the politics of the Communist Party of Bangladesh and appointed as president.

He is survived by his wife, children and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

His body will be kept at Central Shaheed Minar from 10:00am to 11:00am to pay last respects to the labour leader, a TUC press release said.

General secretary of Trade Union Centre Wajedul Islam Khan in a condolence message expressed sorrow at the death of president of the organisation Shahidullah Chowdhury.

CPB president Mohammad Shah Alam and general secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince also expressed deep shock at the death of Shahidullah Chowdhury.

Socialist Party general secretary Bazlur Rashid Firoz, Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq, Bangladesh Jasod president Shaif Nurul Ambia and general secretary Nazmul Haque Prodhan, leaders of Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad expressed deep sorrow at the death of labour leader Shahidullah Chowdhury.
