Bangladesh interim government is hopeful of the extradition of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina from India, chief adviser鈥檚 press secretary Shafiqul Alam said on Sunday.
鈥業t is the nation鈥檚 desire (to get her back)....we are very hopeful,鈥� he told a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
When asked whether it was possible to bring Hasina back home during the tenure of the interim government, Alam said political parties were their stakeholders and hoped that the next elected government, whoever it was, would look into the issue as it was a generational issue.
鈥榃e will try our best. She must face the trial. I think the pressure will build on. Our pressure will relentlessly be there,鈥� he said, adding that such pressure will be mobilised worldwide.
Replying to a question, the press secretary said no country in the world gives shelter to a killer and when the world will know the misdeeds of Hasina, pressure will be mounted to extradite the ousted prime minister.
Mentioning that there is no boundary of Hasina鈥檚 wrongdoings - from the January 5 polls to the July-August massacre, he said, 鈥榃e must bring Hasina back to the country and put her under trial鈥�.
Responding to another query over the note verbal sent to India, Alam said they have not hear anything from the Indian side yet on her extradition request but the government鈥檚 efforts are there to bring her back.
鈥業t remains our top priority. We will not step back from this,鈥� he added.
