National standards and regulatory body, Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution, is going to formulate minimum energy performance standards for LED lamps, focusing on the issue of electricity saving.

To this end, a technical workshop on minimum energy performance standards for LEDs and luminaries was held at the Westin Hotel in the capital on Thursday, said a press release on Saturday.


The seminar, jointly organised by US-based non-profit organisation Clasp and BSTI, was attended by additional secretary of the Ministry of Industries Maqsura Noor as chief guest, BSTI director general SM Ferdous Alam, BSTI director for standards Md Saidul Islam and BSTI technical committee for the formulation of electricity standards chairman Professor Omar Farook.聽

In the technical session of the seminar, experts from various LED lamp manufacturing companies in the country, including members of the relevant technical committees of BSTI, gave their opinions.
