National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s grandson Babul Kazi, a readymade garment trader, died on Sunday afternoon while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery with severe burn injuries.
Babul Kazi, 59, breathed his last at about 5:30pm while he was on life support at the institute with 74 per cent of his boy burnt, said the institute resident surgeon, Shawon Bin Rahman.
‘We formed a 16-member medical board but 74 per cent of his body parts, including his face and trachea, were burnt in the incident,’ said Shawon.
Babul sustained burn injuries in a gas-lighter explosion when he tried to light a cigarette in a washroom at his house in the capital’s Banani area at about 5:00am on Saturday.
He was admitted to the institute at about 7:00am on the day in critical condition.
Babul Kazi’s elder sister Khilkhil Kazi said that he was the youngest of Kazi Nazrul Islam’s son Kazi Sabyasachi’s five children.
