Muggers allegedly stabbed two money-changers and looted Tk 1 crore worth of foreign currencies in capital’s Gulshan area on Tuesday night.

In a separate incident in the early hours of Wednes day, police arrested four people, including two army personnel on allegations of attempted robberies in the capital’s Banani area, said police.  


The injured are City Monetary Exchange owner Abdul Kader Shikder, 35, and his brother-in-law Amir Hamza, 25, said Kader Sikder’s brother Md Sagar Sikder.

Both of them are now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital with severe stab wounds.

‘The incident took place at about 9:30pm on Tuesday when 15-16 muggers attacked them with iron rods, and sharp weapons,’ Sagar told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.

He added that the attack was carried out in front of the Dhaka North City Corporation Market as both of them went outside the market.

Dhaka Metropalitan Police Gulshan Division deputy commissioner Mohammad Tareq Mahmud said that the process of filing a case in this regard with the Gulshan police station was under way.

‘We have already received a complaint in this regard. We will take necessary actions after recording the case,’ the DC added.

Banani police officer-in-charge Rasel Sarwar, meanwhile, said that they arrested four people, including two army personnel at about 1:00am on Wednesday on Road 17 in the Banani area while preparing for robbery in the capital’s Moghbazar area.

‘We have handed over two army members to the forces. A case was filed in this regard,’ the OC said, adding that two civilians Salam and Rozario were produced before a Dhaka court and the court put them on three-day remand.

Contacted, the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate said that they kept the two army personnel in their custody.

The ISPR said that the two members’ trial would be held following the army law and legal action against them was under way.
