Shaon’s Jamalpur house set on fire
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police detective branch detained actress Meher Afroz Shaon from Dhanmondi in the capital Dhaka Thursday evening.
DMP DB chief Rezaul Karim Mallick said that Shaon was taken to the DB office on Mintoo Road at about 8:15pm.
‘We have detained her for questioning,’ he said without further details.
Meanwhile, the ancestral home of Shaon, widow of late writer Humayun Ahmed, was set on fire by a group of people Thursday evening.
The fire incident happened at Narundi village under Jamalpur sadar upazila at about 5:30pm on Thursday, said Md Sohel Mahmud, additional superintendent of police in Jamalpur.
‘About 100 to 150 agitated people gathered in Narundi Bazar area near Narundi Railway Station and brought out a procession there chanting different slogans,’ he said.
Later, they went to the house of Shaon’s father, vandalised it and set the two-storied building on fire, added the police official.
Shaon’s father is engineer Mohammad Ali, and her mother is Tahura Ali, a former lawmaker.
Shaon’s various comments critical of the interim government have recently sparked controversy on social media.
