Bangladesh interim government chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep sorrow and condolences over the death of former chief election commissioner justice Mohammad Abdur Rouf.
In a condolence message, the chief adviser prayed for the departed soul’s eternal peace and extended his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family members, according to a press release issued from press wing.
Recalling Justice Rouf’s contribution to restoring democracy after the fall of the autocratic regime of Ershad on December 6, 1990, and his assumption of office as the chief election commissioner on December 25 that year, Professor Yunus said ‘Justice Rouf will always be remembered as a guiding figure in Bangladesh’s democratic journey. His legacy will live on in the hearts of the people.’
‘Justice Rouf was a pillar of civil society and he worked tirelessly for voting rights, electoral reforms, and democracy—efforts that the nation will always honour with great respect,’ he added.
