The Friends in Village Development Bangladesh, with technical support from the Plan International Bangladesh and funding from Radiohjälpen, has recently hosted an advocacy workshop under the ‘Prevention and Response of Child Protection Concerns through Timely Initiative with Child Engagement’ project at Saint Martin Hall of Hotel Uniresort in Cox’s Bazar.
The workshop on Monday titled ‘Identify and Place the Advocacy Asks to District-Level Relevant Stakeholders,’ focused on key child protection issues, particularly the prevention of child marriage—a critical concern in Rohingya camps and host communities.
Addressing the programme as the chief guest, refugee, relief and repatriation commissioner and additional secretary Mohammed Mizanur Rahman underscored the urgency of collective action.
‘Protecting children requires a joint effort. We must identify and address the root causes of child marriage through awareness and sustainable community engagement,’ he said.
Camp-in-charge of Camp 24 and senior assistant secretary Khanjada Shahriar Bin Mannan and Cox’s Bazar assistant commissioner (GCO, NGO Cell) Nowsher Ibni Halim also spoke.
The workshop also addressed other pressing advocacy concerns, including the rise in CAFFAG cases, the expansion of life skills training, and the need for child-friendly spaces in Cox’s Bazar.
