
At least 30 resorts and cottages were burnt to ashes in a massive fire which broke out at Sajek, a popular tourist spot in Rangamati鈥檚 Baghaichhari upazila, on Monday.
The fire originated at about 1.30pm in Obokash Resort and soon spread to the adjoining resorts and cottages.
Sajek Resort Cottage Owners Association finance secretary Indrajit Chakma said that the fire spread quickly and at least 30-35 resorts, cottages and shops鈥攊ncluding Sajek Vacation Resort, Eco Valley Resort, Meghchut Resort, Montana Restaurant, Marwati Restaurant鈥攚ere burnt to ashes.
Being informed, a team of army from Baghaihat zone, Border Guard Bangladesh members from 27 and 54 battalions rushed to the spot and were trying to bring the fire under control with the help of local people, said Baghaichhari upazila nirbahi officer Shirin Akhter.
The fire was brought under control at about 4:33pm, according to the fire service and civil defence.
Upon receiving information, several firefighting engines rushed to the spot at聽 about 2:40pm and brought the fire under control after nearly two hours of frantic efforts, it said.
The fire service said that it took time to reach the spot due to the remote area and there was also water shortage at the site.
