DMP to appoint auxiliary force
Mentioning about the shortage of personnel in the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, DMP commissioner Sazzat Ali on Saturday urged residents to take measures to ensure security of their homes, shops, businesses and other belongings that they would leave during the Eid holiday.Â
‘We stand by you [residents]. But our members also need holiday and would go home. Those who remain will also have their families absent for extended periods. We need to grant them leave as per government instructions,’ said the DMP commissioner at a press conference held at its media centre.
The DMP commissioner also said that seven days of Ramadan had passed and many Dhaka city residents offered Tarawih prayers.
‘Tarawih prayers need 1.5 to 2 hours in the evening when roads become deserted. I urge people to be careful about their homes, flats and businesses,’ he added.
Sazzat also said that they would appoint private security personnel as auxiliary force during Ramadan and Eid days for shopping malls and residential areas.
‘They [auxiliary force] will have a band in their hands identifying them as auxiliary police members who would be given the authority to make arrests,’ he said.Â
He explained that he had the authority to assign an auxiliary police force at shopping malls and in residential areas.
The auxiliary force would be given similar legal protection like the police force members.
The country’s overall law and order situation has continued to deteriorate in the recent months following the fall of Sheikh Hasina regime on August 5, 2024 amid a student-led mass uprising.
