Four arrested
An eight-year-old girl, who was raped while visiting her sister’s in-laws’ house in Magura, was transferred in deteriorating condition to the Combined Military Hospital for better treatment on Saturday.
Victim’s mother filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act against four individuals—survivor’s sister’s husband, his father, mother and brother. All of them were shown arrested in the case, the police said.
The child was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday evening, where she was given life support on Friday night. The hospital also formed a four-member medical board to oversee her treatment on Saturday morning.
She was taken to CMH from DMCH’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at about 5:00pm, DMCH director brigadier general Mohammad Asaduzzaman confirmed.
Social Welfare adviser Sharmin Murshid went to see the child at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the morning and instructed to form a medical board for her.
The DMCH director in a media briefing in the morning said that the condition of the eight-year-old girl was very critical.
A four-member medical board was formed to oversee her treatment, but doctors expressed little hope for her recovery, he told reporters at DMCH.
‘The injury on her neck is severe, and there are also injuries to her genitals. She was put on life support at about 9:00pm on Frdiay. Doctors have almost given up hope,’ said the hospital director.
The child’s mother filed a case on Saturday on charges of rape, wounding through rape and abetment, said Ayub Ali, officer-in-charge of Magura Sadar police.
The accused are the child’s sister’s husband Sajib Hossain, 18, his father Hitu Mia, 42, Sajib’s brother Ratul Sheikh, and their mother Jabeda Begum, 40.
‘They were detained before the case was filed. They were shown arrested in the case that was filed later,’ Ayub Ali said, adding that all the four were sent to jail after being produced in court on Saturday afternoon.
The child, a third-grader was allegedly raped while she was visiting her elder sister’s house in Magura town early Thursday.
Victim’s mother told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Friday that they were from Sripur upazila of Magura. Her daughter went to visit her elder sister’s in-laws’ house a few days back, said the mother.
Her sister’s mother-in-law brought the child in an unconscious state to Magura 250-bed hospital. Being informed the child’s mother arrived at the hospital later.
The child was bleeding from her vagina, had strangulation marks on her neck, and scratches on various parts of her body.
Later, she was taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, from where they referred her to DMCH.
