Attorney general Md Asaduzzaman on Saturday urged law journalists to actively investigate and expose corruption and irregularities in the judiciary, emphasising their role as the vanguard of accountability, as they had been in the past.

He made the remarks while attending an iftar party organised by the Law Reporters Forum at the South Hall Room of the Supreme Court Bar Association building.

Asaduzzaman assured law reporters that the Office of the Attorney General and the Supreme Court Bar Association would provide necessary support to the reporters facing challenges while uncovering judicial corruption.

Recalling his own background as a legal journalist, the attorney general noted that reports on judicial corruption once made newspaper headlines regularly, but such coverage has now become infrequent.

He urged the law journalists to unite in their profession and renew their commitment to investigative reporting on corruption.

He also highlighted the historical role of legal journalism in shaping public perception of the judiciary, citing the case of Manabjamin editor Motiur Rahman Chowdhury, who faced contempt proceedings after publishing leaked conversations of former military dictator Hussain Muhammad Ershad in a recorded cassette scam.

The event was presided over by Law Reporters Forum acting president Hasan Jabed and was addressed by Supreme Court Bar Association president AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, along with senior law journalists Quazi Abdul Hannan, M Badiuzzaman, Elias Hossain, Mashudul Haque, and others.

Forum general secretary Moniruzzaman Mission delivered the welcome speech.
