Intern doctors and medical students of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital have announced a complete shutdown of services from Monday.
They announced the fresh programme at a press conference held at the Charu Mama’s Canteen on the hospital premises.
The declaration comes after a prolonged series of protests and movements by the interns, demanding the fulfillment of five specific demands related to their working conditions and welfare.
Despite their continuous efforts, the intern doctors stated that they had not received any productive outcomes or resolutions from the concerned authorities.
M Abdullah, president of the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital Intern Doctors Forum, said that the shutdown would be implemented across the country.
‘After long-standing protests, we have not been able to secure any meaningful benefits or improvements in our demands. Therefore, starting Monday, we are declaring a complete shutdown,’ Abdullah said.
The intern doctors’ five-point demand includes various issues related to working hours, compensation, and improved facilities, among other concerns.
Abdullah further mentioned that if these demands were not addressed adequately by the concerned authorities, a more extensive strike could follow. Specifically, from March 12, medical services will be suspended in all government and private hospitals and clinics, including emergency services.
