Unidentified assailants stabbed Habibullah Bahar College acting vice-principal to death at his rented home in the capital’s Uttarkhan area early Monday.
The deceased, Md Syfur Rahman Bhuiyan, 50, became the acting vice-principal of the college after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina regime on August 5, 2024.
Faisal Ahmed, a teacher of the college’s Finance and Banking Department, said that the incident took place anytime between 3:00am and 4:00am.
‘Local people took him to the Uttara Lake View Hospital in a critical condition and he died in the hospital. We came to know about the matter at about 1:30pm from the hospital authorities,’ said Faisal.
He was alone in the home while he faced the fatal attack.
He said that the body was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College in the evening for autopsy.
Faisal also said that although his family lived in the capital’s Paltan area, he rented an apartment near his plot at Uttarkhan to oversee the land.
Uttarkhan police station officer-in-charge Md Ziaur Rahman said that he was also informed about the incident at about 1:30pm.
‘The teacher came to his rented home three or four days ago. The two people who used to live with him there are now in hiding. We primarily assume that the duo killed him,’ said the OC.
