
The Directorate of Primary Education in a directive has barred conducting private tuition, coaching classes and other activities on the premises of government primary schools after school hours and during holidays.
In cases of violation, those involved would be responsible, a directive of the directorate reads.
The directorate issued the directive on Monday after a teacher allegedly raped an 11-year-old student at a government primary school on March 8 in Thakurgaon.
A source at the directorate said that the order was issued after a student was raped by her teacher on the premises of her school.
‘Recently it was observed that after end of school hours on weekends and on holidays, different activities, including private tuition and coaching classes, are conducted in the primary schools,’ the directive read.
These activities are unwanted, the directive continued.
In any circumstances the classrooms cannot be used for different activities, including private tuition and coaching classes, the directive read, adding that regarding its violation those who are involved would be responsible.
The directive said that the order would immediately take effect, asking all concerned to take necessary steps to follow it mandatorily.
According to the police, Mozammel Haque Manik, assistant teacher at Madarganj Kachubari Governemnt Primary School at Auliapur union in Madarganj upazila of the district allegedly raped the girl at about 11:00am on March 8.
Bhully police officer-in-charge Saiful Islam said that the school was closed at the time but Mozammel was tutoring some students, including the girl whom he raped.
The victim was later admitted to Thakurgaon General Hospital.
Her father filed a case as the police arrested the accused.
