
The Anti-Corruption Commission on Wednesday filed two separate cases against former state minister for industries Md Omor Faruk Chowdhury and his wife, Nigar Sultana Chowdhury, on charges of amassing illegal assets worth Tk聽16 crore.
ACC assistant director Mohammad Zinnatul Islam filed the cases with its integrated district office in Dhaka-1 following approval of the commission, said ACC director general Akhtar Hossain.
According to case statements, Omor Faruk, also a former member of parliament from the Rajshahi-1 constituency, is accused of acquiring assets worth Tk聽13.61 crore beyond his known sources of income and engaging in unusual transactions worth Tk 445 crore in his 57 bank accounts.
Nigar Sultana was sued on charges of amassing illegal assets worth Tk 2.23 crore and suspicious transactions of Tk聽4.35 crore in her 11 bank accounts.
The anti-graft agency also filed two separate cases against two former upazila chairmen, Jahnagir Alam and Lutfar Haider Rashid, in Rajshahi on charges of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.
A case was filed against former Godagari upazila chairman Jahangir Alam on charges of amassing illegal assets worth Tk聽1.11 crore.
Former Tanore upazila chairman Lutfar Hider Rashid was sued on charges of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk聽49.68 lakh.
