
A local organiser of the Chittagong Hill Tracts-based political party United People’s Democratic Front was allegedly shot dead by members of its rival Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti at Sapchhari union under Sadar upazila in Rangamati district Sunday morning.
Nirmal Khiyang, 32, of Naniarchar union under Naniarchar upazila was shot dead between 9:00am and 9:30am in a remote hilly area at Khamar para under Sapchhari union of Sadar upazila, according to police and local people.
Nirmal was a local UPDF organiser at Sapchhari union.
Sapchhari union parishad chairman Probin Chakma said that police recovered the body at about 2:00pm.
‘I informed the police about the incident and sent two persons to the police station,’ he added. UPDF spokesperson Ongyo Marma told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that Nirmal was shot dead by PCJSS members.
‘Three people, including the victim, were suddenly attacked by the PCJSS armed goons in a hilly area of Naniarchar upazila. Two of them managed to flee, but Nirmal was shot dead,’ said Ongyo.
Rangamati Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Md Shahed Uddin said that they had recovered the body from the spot.
‘We will send the body to the Rangamati hospital for autopsy. We are investigating the incident. We have heard the allegations raised against PCJSS members over the murder,’ the OC added.
Dipayan Khisa, a PCJSS central committee member, however, said that he was not aware of the incident.
