A 25-year-old man was killed and another injured in a clash between two groups over sand extraction from a river at Gafargaon in Mymensingh on Monday night.

The deceased, Mehedi Hasan Rakib, was a resident of Taloli village.


The incident occurred at Taloli village at around 10:00pm on Monday, said Mohammad Ferdous Alam, officer-in-charge of Pagla police station.

According to police and locals, Rakib had an ongoing dispute with Yasin over sand extraction.

On Monday night, the conflict escalated, and members of Yasin’s group allegedly beat and hacked Rakib to death.

Another person was injured by gunshot during the clash, but his identity could not be immediately confirmed. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

‘Upon receiving information, the police went to the scene and brought the situation under control. The body has been recovered and taken to the police station. Legal proceedings are underway,’ added the OC.
