Eminent educationist and former chairman of University Grants Commission Professor Kazi Shahidullah died in Australia on Wednesday.
He was suffering from cancer for a long time, said a condolence message issued by the commission on the day.
He is survived by his widow, two sons and a daughter.
For treatment, he was staying at his daughter鈥檚 residence at Canberra in Australia where he died at 1:15pm on Wednesday.
As per the message, Professor Shahidullah joined as the 13th UGC chairman on May 26, 2019 for the first term and on May 28, 2023 for the second term.
He had resigned from his position on August 11, 2024 citied his illness as the reason.
He was also a former professor of the Dhaka University鈥檚 history department.
He held different important positions, including vice-chancellor of National University and dean of arts faculty of Dhaka University.
