At least four people, including two minors, were killed in road accidents across Bangladesh on Friday.

Of the victims, one each was killed in Kushtia, Dhaka, Narsingdi and Tangail.


In Kushtia, a four-month-old baby was killed after he fell from his mother鈥檚 lap and then an illegal three-wheeler and shallow-engine driven vehicle called Karimon ran over him in the Amtala area in Kumarkhali municipality on Friday at about 11:30am.

The deceased is Nayem, son of Nazmul Hossain from Nagar Saota village under Chapra union in Kumarkhali upazila.

Kumarkhali police officer-in-charge Md Solaiman Sheikh said that Nayem was going to a family programme by an auto-van.

At Amtala when the auto-van was taking a turn Nayem fell from his mother鈥檚 lap and the Karimon from the opposite side ran over him.

He was declared dead at the upazila health complex.

Agitated locals beat the Karimon driver, Aminul Islam, 35, and handed him over to the police.

Solaiman Sheikh added that a case was filed.

At Dhaka Medical College Hospital a minor child and a woman died on the day in two separate accidents, said the hospital鈥檚 police outpost in-charge inspector Mohammad Faruk.

Twenty-five-year old Sumy Akhtar sustained severe injuries after a speedy battery-run auto-rickshaw ran over her at Mugdapara area in the capital on Thursday at about 9:30pm.

Sumy was a private tutor and wife of Mahfuzur Rahman, a resident of Maniknagar WASA road area in the city.

At the DMCH, her neighbour Mezbah Uddin said that Sumy was trying to cross the road when the accident took place.

She was rushed to the Mugda General Hospital at first and later was taken to the DMCH as her condition deteriorated.

At the DMCH, the on-duty doctors declared her dead at about 1:00am on Friday.

In a separate incident, five-year-old Hafsa Akhtar was critically injured when a battery-run auto-rickshaw hit her in front of her house in the Raipura area in Narsingdi on Thursday at around 2:00pm.

At first she was taken to the 250-bed hospital in Raipura and as her condition deteriorated she was taken to the DMCH.

She was also declared dead at about 1:00am on Friday.

Her uncle Alkas Uddin said that Hafsa鈥檚 father name was Md Haris Miah from Tulatuli village.

DMCH police outpost in-charge Mohammad Faruk also said that the bodies were kept in the morgue for autopsies.

United News of Bangladesh reported that an Ansar commander died on the spot after a soil-laden truck lost control and ran over him in Delduar upazila of Tangail on Friday morning.

The deceased Mohammad Shafiullah Mia, 47, hailed from Moulvipara village of the upazila, said Delduar police sub-inspector Mohammad Ali.

Shafiullah was serving as the commander of the Ansar members responsible for the security of the upazila nirbahi officer鈥檚 office at Monohorgonj in Cumilla.

He had come home during Eid vacation, the sub-inspector said.

The accident took place when Shafiullah was out for a morning walk and reached in front of Delduar Hospital, a soil-laden truck lost control, crashed into an electric pole on the roadside, and ran over him.

A case was filed with the Delduar police station and police seized the truck, Mohammad Ali said, adding that the truck driver and his assistant managed to flee the spot.

Meanwhile, 抖阴精品 correspondent in Panchagarh reported that a motorcyclist was killed and his pillion rider was critically injured when a cattle-laden truck hit the motorcycle on the Boda-Debiganj road at Bottali area in Panchagarh on Thursday evening.

The deceased is Farhad Ahmed Siam, 30, from Khidirpara village under Louhajang upazila in Munshiganj.

The injured were taken to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital where Siam died on Thursday evening, said Boda thana officer-in-charge Azim Uddin.
