At least three people, including a local Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leader, were killed in a clash between two neighbours over land in the Kutupalong area under Ukhia upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday morning.
The deceased are Jamaat Rajapalong union’s ward 9 amir Abdullah Al Mamun, his rivals Abdul Mannan and Shahina Begum, hailing from Paschimpara of Kutupalong Bazar under Rajapalong union of the upazila, according to police officials.
Rajapalong union parishad secretary Mrinal Barua said that all of them were cousins and a tense situation was prevailing in the area.
‘We along with the UP chairman visited the place, but none of those families were found on the spot,’ Mrinal said, adding that members of law enforcement agencies were deployed in the area as a tense situation was prevailing there.Â
Ukhia police officer-in-charge Arif Hossain said that the incident took place between 10:30am and 11:00am as Jamaat leader Abdullah allegedly forcibly started constructing a wall.
‘We have sent bodies to Cox’s Bazar General Hospital for autopsy,’ the OC said, adding that none has been arrested yet in the incident.
The officer also said that they would take necessary actions after receiving formal complaints.
The OC said that it was not a political murder but a clash triggered by a dispute over land.
Arif also said that the two sides swooped on each other with locally made sharp weapons during the clash.
