
A battery-run auto-rickshaw driver died from electrocution while charging a rechargeable battery in a garage in the capital’s Hazaribagh area early Sunday.
The deceased, Shafiur Rahman, 45, is a resident of Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost in-charge Md Faruk said that the incident took place at about 3:00am on Sunday and Shafiur was taken to the hospital in critical condition three hours later where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Faruk also said that the body was kept at the DMCH morgue.
Hazaribagh police officer-in-charge Mohamamd Saiful Islam said that they had sent the body for autopsy and an unnatural death case was filed in this regard.
The victim’s neighbor, Oilur Rahman, who took him to the hospital, said that he was electrocuted when he was charging a rechargeable battery of his battery-run auto-rickshaw.
‘We have recovered him and taken to the Dhaka Medical emergency unit where the doctor on duty declared him dead,’ he added.
Oilur also said that the victim was residing at a rented house at Malek Colony in the Kamrangir Char area.
