
A 28-year-old woman was stabbed allegedly by a man after his failed attempt to rape her in Natore鈥檚 Gurudaspur upazila on Thursday.
The accused was identified as Zakaria, 30, a farmer at Kumarkhali village under the upazila, according to locals on Friday.
Locals said the victim went to a pond nearby her house to collect snails for ducks on Thursday afternoon.
Seeing no one else around the the pond, the accused allegedly attempted to rape her but failed as she shouted for help, they said.
During the scuffle the accused stuck the woman with a sickle leaving her injured, before he fled the scene, according to the locals.
Later, she was taken to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital where she is receiving treatment.
Golam Sarowar, officer-in-charge of Gurudaspur police station, said legal action will be taken if complaints are lodged.
