Bangladesh national cricket team will begin their official T20 World Cup journey today as they will take on USA in the first of their two warm-up games in Dallas, Texas today.
The match will start at 9:30pm and Nagorik TV will televise the game live.
The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup, to be held in West Indies and USA, will begin on June 1 with an opening ceremony before the first game on the next day.
Bangladesh went through a terrible run in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against hosts USA as they suffered a 2-1 series defeat, losing the first meeting by five wickets and the second by six runs.
On both occasions, the Tigers failed to prove their worth in batting, bowling, and fielding.
However, they managed to restore some form in the last match of the series, blowing away the home side by registering a 10-wicket victory courtesy of an unbeaten 58 off 42 from Tanzid Hasan Tamim and 43 off 28 from Soumya Sarkar.
They could breeze past the total thanks to Mustafizur Rahman’s career-best figures of 6-10, which helped them restrict the hosts to 104-9.
To prepare better for the pinnacle event, Bangladesh will need to repeat what they did in the final game.
If they manage to register another big victory against the team that troubled them, they will be able to head to the global event with some confidence.
Bangladesh skipper Shanto acknowledged that fact following the third match.
‘It’s very disappointing for us [losing the series]. We didn’t play well, to be very honest. But we finished on a high note, and I think this confidence going up to the World Cup will help us, and we know all the conditions and all those things,’ he said.
‘So, we experienced all those things. If we go to the World Cup with those experiences, then it will help our team.’
To continue the newfound momentum, the Tigers must perform in all three departments, especially the top order must take responsibility because otherwise, it would make the team suffer to a large scale, denting their morale further.
Like their batting, Bangladesh bowlers also need to do better across games as often in recent times, they have failed to maintain their rhythm throughout games.Â
With that requirement in mind, leg-spinner Rishad Hossain said he hoped to top the wicket-takers chart in the forthcoming marquee competition.
‘Of course, as a bowler, I want to see the title ‘highest wicket-taker’ besides my name. And as an all-rounder, I want to see myself at a much higher level,’ the leg-spinner said in a video posted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board on social media on Monday.
