The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s future – since the resignation of Sheikh Hasina as prime minister of Bangladesh – has been up in the air as the organisation’s president and other directors were also part of the former government and ruling party Bangladesh Awami League.

BCB president Nazmul Hasan was the Youth and Sports minister of the previous Bangladesh government, while directors Naimur Rahman, AJM Nasir Uddin, and Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel were members of the parliament under the previous government.

However, since the resignation of Hasina, neither of them has arrived at the BCB premises in Dhaka, while several organisers have asked for reform at the organisation.

Anamul, who will lead the Bangladesh A team in their upcoming two-match four-day series in Pakistan, called for extensive discussions for the BCB to find a new path.

‘I think an extensive conversation is necessary. I don’t want change based on one or two people’s words. Personally, I would prefer a discussion with people who are involved in cricket, playing cricket, and will play cricket, which would show what is happening where,’ he told the media following a practice session on Thursday.

‘I don’t know what is happening in the second division but I know the Dhaka Premier League. I think it can be a great discussion including everyone where we can represent what we need.’

While he spoke about off-the-field matters, Anamul also did not lose sight of the on-the-field picture as Bangladesh A and the national team are both touring Pakistan this month.

The first four-day game of the A team will feature a few national team players including Mushfiqur Rahim, Mominul Haque, Zakir Hasan, and Nayeem Hasan as part of preparation for the Test series later on.

Anamul believes that the A team matches will help the national team, resulting in the hope of making people happy through cricket.

‘Cricket has an emotional place among the people. There is a national team series [in Pakistan] right after this one. A lot of Test players are going with the A team as part of preparation. I think the national team will use this opportunity well,’ he said.

‘Bangladesh will play Tests after some time. I hope something good will happen and we can offer everyone joy.’

The first four-day match of the series against Pakistan Shaheens will begin on August 13 before the second match starting on August 20.

The first Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan is currently scheduled for August 21.
